A Computational Model of Thrombus Growth Based on Level Set Method

The computational model of thrombosis is great importance that decides the simulation performance. In present study, a hybrid particle-continuum with plasma, vascular wall, and thrombus being continuum material platelets discrete particles, was developed to simulate growth. model, growth reformulated as novel surface expansion problem implemented by level set function due its capability effectively handling topological changes comprising splitting merging, rather than traditional particle accumulation problem. Additionally, Gaussian-based distance regularization function, served speed functions drive growth, were proposed compared in our study. Experiments demonstrated growing could retain texture both functions, while performed better improving complexity tracking behaviors. Both simulations visuality progress thrombosis, geometry shape virtual primary thrombi similar realistic counterpart.
